Best Surf Watches for Women 2020

This post may also be available in: nl

Are you looking for the best surf watches for women in 2020? My 2018 list of waterproof watches for women is still going strong, and those watches are certainly still worth considering. BUT, it is time for an update! We like to keep up with the latest fashion trends (no, we don’t) and the newest technology (that, yes). So here are 7 beauties that I think everybody – surfer or non-surfer – would like to decorate their wrist with.

The Best Surf Watches for Women 2020: Huge & Tiny Budgets

best surf watches for women 2020
I choose: the Freestyle Shark Classic Clip Aloha Surf Watch

Now, let me first explain how I did my research and put this list together. Because this 2020 list doesn’t include typical surf watches that are advertised on so many other blogs, such as those from Rip Curl, Vestal or Garmin.

Why not? Because I looked at the customer reviews of those watches, and they were mostly negative. They were complaining about the software, the GPS not working, etc. I did include a watch by Nixon (not my fave brand), but that’s just to warn you about the damn buttons that you can’t press underwater. The rest of the waterproof watches all got great reviews, so I stand by them 100%.

Also, be sure to choose a watch that is resistant up to at least 100 meters. Anything below that will not suffice. You might be able to shower with it, but that’s it. Not a lot of barrels in the shower, unfortunately.

Luxury Best Surf Watches for Women

Okay, so we’ll start with the crazy expensive surf watches and work our way down to the affordable ones. If you have the budget though, there are some amazing watches out there! Just have a look.

#1 Apple Watch Series 5 (or 4 or 3)

Price: Starting at $349 at Amazon

If you are a tech-geek (good on you), then “buy the Apple Watch, you must.  Herh herh herh”. I don’t know why I associate Yoda with tech-geeks, but yeah. The Apple Watch is in one word SPECTACULAR. In the words of Apple: “You’ve never seen a watch like this”. Which is definitely true.

Unfortunately, the Apple Watch is only water-resistant up to 50 meters. If you keep it covered by your wetsuit, however, it seems safe enough to surf with.

Apart from the dozens of apps (eg the Dawn Patrol app and Surfline Sessions, or apps for snowboarding) that you can download to this watch, it has a multitude of features:

Features:

  • GPS + Cellular (you can call your mom and tell her about the barrel you are currently surfing)
  • Worldwide tide-tracking
  • Water-resistant up to 50 meters
  • ECG app (to check how fast your heart is beating in the barrel)
  • A Noise app (so you know when you risk going deaf – at concerts, or when there’s a douchebag in the water shouting at you)
  • Built-in compass (in case it’s foggy and you don’t know which way to paddle)
  • Emergency SOS (in case the compass doesn’t work)
  • International emergency calling

Pros:

  • A f*cking cool gadget!
  • The ability to analyze your surf sessions – and improve your skills!
  • The ability to always stay connected.

Cons:

  • A f*cking expensive gadget!
  • The ability to analyze your surf sessions. Surfing is about having fun. Analyzing every session might take the fun out of it a bit.
  • The ability to always stay connected. When I go surfing, that’s the last thing I want.

#2 Casio Baby-G Cosmic Face Series Ladies Watch

Price: Around $200 at Amazon

A pretty cute watch from Casio, this sparkly Baby-G takes you flying through the universe with its galactic appearance.

Features:

  • Water-resistant up to 100 meters
  • World Time zones (29 zones)
  • Daylight saving
  • Countdown timer
  • Mineral glass
  • Stopwatch
  • 5 daily alarms
  • Shock resistant

Pros:

  • Super durable.
  • Shock resistant, good for wipe-outs.

Cons:

  • A bit pricey for what you get.

Mid-Range Best Surf Watches for Women

Now, if you are looking for some awesome mid-range surf watches, here are some I highly recommend. Except for the first one, I wouldn’t get that one – unless you trust yourself to not push any buttons underwater.

#3 Nixon Siren Women’s Sport Watch

Price: Buy for $99 on Amazon

So I don’t have the greatest experience with Nixon watches. I pushed the buttons of my Nixon watch when I was snorkeling (underwater) and it broke down. I was hoping they would have improved their buttons by now, but their current warranty says: “You will void your warranty if you open your case back, push the buttons underwater[…]”… aaand that says enough.

But as long as you don’t push the buttons underwater, it’s a great watch. I am including the watch in this article, just because I want you to be aware of this HUGE little defect. I mean, Nixon is a big name in the surf watch industry, so you are bound to run into them eventually when you’re on the hunt for a surf watch. But at least you are informed now.

Features:

  • Basic high/low tide and future tide
  • Water-resistant up to 100 meters
  • Countdown timer
  • Date calendar

Pros:

  • It looks fancy.
  • No, seriously, it looks pretty damn pretty.

Cons:

  • You CANNOT push the buttons underwater. This means that if a button is accidentally pushed during a wipe-out, the watch might be f*cked.

#4 Casio Women’s Baby-G

Price: Buy for $80-100 on Amazon

If you are looking for a *bling* hip-hoppy kinda surf watch, this is it. I think the black and gold is pretty rad. Of course, they have maaany more designs and series, so just check the rest out as well. If you want something a little less gangsta rap, check this one out:

It doesn’t matter what series we’re talking about, I love EVERYTHING from Casio. Well, almost everything. Casio is just a super reliable brand, it has been producing watches since the beginning of time (not really, more like November 1974), and they have watches for all kinds of budgets.

Features:

  • Mega durable and super tough
  • Shock resistant
  • Water-resistant up to 200 meters
  • Magnetic resistant
  • 5 Daily alarms
  • Countdown timer
  • Stopwatch
  • Speed indicator
  • Calendar
  • World time (29 time zones)

Pros:

  • Casio is just the most reliable watch brand ever.
  • Mega durable and tough, so perfect for adventure sports
  • Pretty affordable

Cons:

  • None. I love Casio.

#5 Freestyle Shark Classic Clip Aloha Surf Watch

Price: Buy for $60 on Amazon

Okay, get me one of these. Yeaaas, I like love these awesome vintage surf watches from Freestyle USA. They have loads of different designs, so definitely check them all out. It is simple, no advanced tech here, but it does the job and looks super cute. Pretty affordable too. This one is also cute by the way:

Also a huge plus: it’s got “hydro pushers”. This means that you can actually press the buttons underwater without destroying the watch. 🙂

And what’s also cool: Freestyle USA sells straps for the Apple Watch! So if you wanna get the tech and the cuteness, this would be the perfect combination.

Features:

  • Water-resistant up to 100 meters
  • Clip band
  • Night vision
  • Alarm
  • Dual time
  • Stopwatch
  • Hydro pushers

Pros:

  • It’s totally affordable!
  • It’s simple and it does a great job of telling you the time
  • You can time your swim-pool laps without ruining the watch

Cons:

  • Can’t think of any. Yeah, maybe that it doesn’t have tide-tracking. But who cares, the straps are sooo pretty!

Cheap Best Surf Watches for Women

Don’t wanna spend that much on a surf watch? Take a look at these awesome cheapos.

#6 Casio Women’s Sporty Watch

Price: Buy for $33 on Amazon

If you just want to have a proper, durable waterproof watch that tells the time and the date, this would be an excellent choice. Again, Casio is a very reliable brand and for $30 you can’t go wrong.

Features:

  • Water-resistant up to 100 meters
  • Analog watch
  • Quartz movement
  • 10-year battery

Pros:

  • Super cheap
  • Super durable
  • Super simple

Cons:

  • Doesn’t do anything except tell the time and the date.

#7 Casio Women’s “Dive Series” Watch (but you can also surf with it)

Price: Buy for $20-30 on Amazon

Yes, another Casio. But this one is even cheaper! And really, if you are going to buy a cheap waterproof watch, I would highly recommend going for Casio, since other cheap surf watches are just not as reliable – in my opinion.

Features:

  • Water-resistant up to 100 meters
  • Quartz movement

Cons:

  • Maybe too simple?

My Pick: #5, the Freestyle USA Shark Classic Clip Aloha Surf Watch

Buy for $60 on Amazon

If you are looking for one of the best surf watches for women, I would choose this one. The name of this watch is a mouth full, but I guess it’s worth it. I just love the straps, the solid technology, and the fact that it gets great reviews.

PS Looking for a surf bikini to match your watch? 😉 Check out my review of Zealous Surf Bikinis and my review of Hakuna Wear.
